Bowls

Well. As I mentioned in my last post, I was committed to making a bowl a week. Well it’s been a week and I’ve made four bowls!

Hammering is really addictive! It’s so amazing to feel the bowl taking shape under your hand. I am excited this week because I have also designed some feet for the bowls that I will etch and enamel in champleve technique.

The foot of this bowl is actually a piece of plumbing pipe!  I painted the resit around it – and when I put it in the etch vat, I covered the top and bottom with tape to protect the inside from the acid.

It took me a little while to figure out how to attach the foot. I ended up soldering a sleeve to the bowl that the foot then fit tightly over. This way it was stable, but coud be removed for cleaning etc.
